The Inaugural HHS Sickle Cell Summit Releases Guide, Outlining Steps To Acquire Social Security Disability Benefits




If you have sickle cell disease, you may be eligible for disability benefits through Social Security’s Disability Insurance (SSDI) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) programs. Social Security pays disability benefits to people who can’t work because they have a severe medical condition (also called an impairment) that has lasted, or is expected to last, for a continuous period of at least 1 year or to result in death.
