HEALTH FAIRS
INVITE US TO YOUR NEXT HEALTH FAIR
The Foundation hosts community education seminars and join many organizations in partnership at various health fairs and conducts testing in interested school systems throughout the State of Georgia about Sickle Cell Disease and other abnormal hemoglobins.
The Foundation participates with an exhibit booth or, when feasible, by bringing the Mobile Health Unit. Consent forms are required for testing. Minors must provide parental consent forms, available on the website (below).
Due to changes in laboratory procedures, we are no longer able to offer finger sticks to collect blood samples. We can only perform venipuncture. (drawing blood from veins) Venipuncture provides a larger, purer sample that allows for more comprehensive and accurate diagnostic results compared to finger stick.
The Sickle Cell Foundation of Georgia participates in health fairs and conferences at the request of community organizations, nonprofits, fraternities and sororities, churches, and businesses in Georgia. Education, screening and other activities may be available to your group. If you were born in Georgia from 2001 coming forward, your newborn screening results may be available at no cost. Before this time span there is a fee. Please call before paying. Testing is available at the Sickle Cell Foundation of Georgia. The Foundation accepts medical insurance and donations. Groups must meet a minimum participation number to conduct screenings utilizing the mobile unit at health fairs.
